Comment by Philip Mullins: The Slave Schedules list slaves by age and sex. Of the slaves owned by the three family groups listed (the children of Samuel Varnadoe Sr., the children of Richard Simmons and two Mullins families) about 24% were boys under the age of 15, 26% were men over the age of 15, 17% were girls under the age of 15 and 33% were women over the age of 15. None of the slaves with the exception of Will Simmons (who was not listed as being a slave) were over 65 years of age. The median age of the slaves was about 18 years old with half of them women and half men.
