What is your favorite wireless gadget?
we asked our youth community this question and discovered that:

2/3 of NRGen community respondents sampled preferred the Palm VII
Youth love:
- the downloadable email,
- how it connects with their actual email and;
- its 2 way messaging functionality.

Youth don't love:
- the price.

Keep in mind that the Palm VII is not even available in Canada yet. Companies are chomping at the bit to furnish a PDA that does the usuals (manage contacts and calendar), while also giving them wireless email and web surfing capabilities. Add to that the massive number of user created PALM applications and you have a device that is unavailable in Canada and still the PDA of choice with youth.

Other key points:
-
Instant messaging of one form or another is de rigeur for any youth targeted wireless device.
-our poll indicated a positive leaning towards RIM's Blackberry pager, Bell Mobility pager and Nokia cells.

In previous NRGen polls we found out that:

Youth today are ALL about multi-tasking, instant response, quick access to information and being connected with each other at all possible times.

The implications for their lifestyle are:
-increased awareness by simple communications / information osmosis;
-increased expectations for contemporary messaging using ALL available media;
-exceedingly fast ascendancy of underground trends to the mainstream (this can go the other way of course);
-better organization on the whole; and,
-a sense of empowerment (particularly driven by their innate engagement with the Internet).

The implications for business are:
-engage youth using ALL available communication means (online advertising and presence, ICQ boards, pager prompting etc.);
-understand the empowerment that expanded communication has given youth and utilize this for advancing your brand and products (the power of viral networking);
-increase your vigilance of ALL trends affecting youth culture in order to remain contemporary in your youth-oriented marketing initiatives.

cast your nets widely and deeply when engaging this target
