A One Minute Guide to What Kids Are Doing Over the Holidays

Check out the most popular flicks with our youth this holiday season.

The question: "What flicks are you planning on catching this holiday season and why?"

CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON

"DAYUM it's good! Chinese Kung-Fu at its best! Forget about "Charlie's Angels" ... this movie has girls who can pull flying kicks and punches like gravity didn't exist! It's about agility and finesse, not brute power!... This is traditional Chinese SHAOLIN Kung-Fu, not any cheap imitation. I recommend it to everyone as this movie isn't just about wicked KUNG-FU action, but it actually delves into (not just skims) mysticism and human virtues! Plus, it has a few good romantic themes to "satisfy the testosterone levels."The only problem is that it is subtitled in English from the original Mandarin. Some of the translations are AWFUL, but you'll get the gist of the meaning, and more."

CHARLIE'S ANGELS

"If prices were lower, I would watch 'Charlie's Angels.' I think it's really cool that new movies are revamps of old classics. It brings back old memories for people who have seen the oldies. Comparisons are made with the new movies and communication occurs between different generations. I've never seen the old 'Charlie' Angels,' but it's nice to see a new interest in it. It's awesome how we get to see women kick butt in their own style. They've got this cool 'no-guns' policy which is really awesome. Promoting something worthy while having a lot of fun grooving.

This basically sums up the entire deal with 'Charlie's Angels': 1) gorgeous 2) strong beliefs and abide by them 3) have a whole lot of fun.

THE GRINCH
The popular choice! "I'm not one to spend all my hard earned cash on movie theaters (I'll wait for the video) so I'm selective as to what I'll go and see. I'll definitely catch 'The Grinch' because I loved the animated special as a kid (and still do). I also want to see if Jim Carrey can pull the role off! Tom Hanks is one of my favorite actors so I'll likely go see 'Castaway'. To all the movie lovers out there - Seasons Greetings!"

VERTICAL LIMIT
"I think that 'Vertical Limit' looks like an exciting flick to see. Probably the type of film you'd go see with a bunch of boys to give them a break from the chick flicks. Although it does look a little "extreme" to put it lightly, with people jumping from mountain to mountain, it still looks like it would be quite entertaining...However, after the boys have their chance with their action film, it would be time for more of a ladies' choice. I think that the new movie with Mel Gibson looks hilarious. He can read women's minds. I just think it would be funny to see how men would react if they knew what women were thinking."

BLOCK BUSTER FLICKS VS. BIG CINEMA SPECTACULAR
Many kids asked the following: "What's up with the movie ticket prices sky rocketing like mad?"

"The increase in the price for movie tickets is to supplement the costs of building wicked movie complexes, but AREN'T THERE just too many of them as of now? Some of them are usually empty, even at peak times! It's just a waste of money ... waste of OUR money! Theater prices are getting way out of hand. Even the cheap theatres have increased their prices 225% in the past 2 years."

"Rather than spending a fortune at the movies I'm going to head to BLOCKBUSTERS to rent the movies 'GONE IN 60 SECONDS' and 'SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION'. Why 'GONE IN 60 SECONDS?' IT'S ALLLLLLLLLLLL about the cars. There's nothing better than a souped up CIVIC SiR racing a PORSCHE 911 TURBO! Too bad the main car is a Hemi powered American bad-ass car. Man .... why can't it be an EVO VI !!! "

NRG Solutions Perspective

So...lots of variety this Christmas season at the box office but let's step back and notice an underlying theme we've been monitoring over here at NRG Solutions youth headquarters.

With the advent of DVD players and releases to video outlets coming closer and closer on the heels of major theatrical releases, we're going to be seeing an MP3-esque revolution in the film industry shortly.

Home viewing continues to be more cost, time and socially efficient than going to the theatre. In fact, you are often getting more by purchasing or downloading a DVD these days.

Theatres will remain a major social nexus for teens and young adults throughout the next couple years but it is time now to start thinking about rolling out communication programs to the home-based film market AS IF it were an actual theatre experience. This is a new marketing avenue that has not been fully capitalized upon.

Happy Holidays, movie-lovers far and wide!
